Americans pay an average of $2,014 a year, or about $168 per month, on auto insurance for full coverage, with factors such as your credit score, the vehicle's make and model, your driving habits, and where you live in your city affecting your car insurance premium, according to Bankrate.com.
In 2022, auto insurance rates reached their pre-pandemic levels after U.S. auto insurers returned $14 billion to policyholders as shelter-in-place orders resulted in fewer accidents. But, as the Insurance Information Institute noted, collision frequency and severity, and fatality all witnessed a spike, bringing into focus the importance of auto insurance.
Allstate is one of the leading insurance companies in the U.S., offering many products, including auto insurance.

Allstate auto insurance features

In addition to the usual bells and whistles of an auto insurance policy, Allstate also provides the following:

Allstate Rewards

With Allstate Rewards, you can earn points for safe driving on your daily basis. These rewards are redeemable for savings on daily deals, gift cards, and sweepstakes. Ten safe trips with no high speeds or sudden braking earn you 200 points, as do three consecutive days without sudden braking or high speeds. Points can also be earned through non-driving activities, such as redeeming promo codes from Allstate Rewards emails, surveys, and promotions with the Allstate mobile app.

Deductible Rewards

Car insurance customers who enroll in Allstate's optional deductible rewards program earn an immediate $100 off their collision coverage deductible and another $100 in deductible savings for each year they drive without getting into an accident up to a maximum of $500. If your collision deductible is $1,000 and you earn $500 in rewards, you'll save half of your out-of-pocket cost if you have an insurance claim after an accident.

New car replacement

Being in an accident is a harrowing experience, and drivers do their best to avoid them. But if your car is totaled and two model years old or less, Allstate will replace it completely.

Accident forgiveness

Auto insurance premiums increase if you're at fault in an accident. Not with Allstate, however. When you add accident forgiveness coverage to your auto insurance policy, your rates will not increase after an accident, even if it was your fault. The optional coverage kicks in the day you sign up.

Safe driving bonus

Will Allstate, defensive driving, and other safe driving practices help you save on car insurance? If you're enrolled in Allstate's safe driving bonus program, you'll earn a bonus every six months if you don't have an accident. These discounts can be directly deposited into your bank account, or you can ask to receive a credit to your car insurance policy instead.

Who is Allstate auto insurance best for?

  • People with unique needs: Allstate offers car and classic car insurance if traveling to Mexico.
  • Rideshare drivers: If you drive for Uber, Lyft, or other rideshare companies, Allstate's got you covered.
  • Safe and low-mileage drivers: Allstate's Drivewise rewards policyholders for practicing safe driving habits. Milewise charges you based on the miles you drive.

Owned by Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway conglomerate, Geico is perhaps best known for its Geico Gecko ads. It is also one of the best in terms of cheaper car insurance. It is consistently ranked among the best auto insurers in the US. Optional coverages include mechanical breakdown and car rental reimbursement.

State Farm

Illinois-based State Farm offers expansive car rental and travel coverage as well as antique and classic car insurance like Allstate.

Nationwide

Like Allstate, Ohio-based Nationwide Mutual has a program that rewards safe drivers, and it doesn't charge drivers with low credit more for insurance. But it has below-average customer service, and premiums can be expensive if you're a bad driver.
